Toronto North celebrates 10th anniversary by raising money for FightSMA
Operating as a members-only design center and showroom, we've always tried to treat our members as one big family. So, to celebrate our 10th anniversary, we hosted an all day celebration and charity event on June 16, 2007 to raise money for FightSMA, a charity dedicated to fighting Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA). DirectBuy members Shawn and Tracy Lacey have a daughter, Tori, who has SMA, the leading inherited killer of children under two.
The celebration included face painting, a barbeque with hot dogs and hamburgers, a jumping castle and much more for members and their families. In addition, we raised money for FightSMA with a raffle and silent auction with prizes such as an LCD television, gift baskets, furniture and diamond earrings courtesy of various DirectBuy manufacturers.
Through the manufacturer and member donations, we were able to make a $10,000 contribution to the Lacey family who attended on behalf of “Tori's Buddies,” their charity that is working to find a cure for SMA. We are so proud that we were able to help such an important organization and will continue to be of service to not just our members, but also to our community.
